Sharing the information on X (formerly Twitter), CBP said that it is mandatory for every non-citizen aged 18 years or above in the US to always keep a foreign registration certificate or green card with them. If a person does not do so and is stopped by a law enforcement agency, legal action can be taken against him and a fine can also be imposed.

Violation can be costly, card can be taken away

Although green card holders have valid permission to live and work in America, if they do not keep their identity documents with them, they may have to face serious consequences. The US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has made it clear that not following the rules can not only result in a fine, but also loss of permanent residence status or deportation from the country.
