National News: After Donald Trump became the President of America again, the country's immigration policy has become very strict. His tariff plan and immigration policies have created a stir all over the world. Recently, thousands of illegal immigrants have been deported from the country, including hundreds of Indians. Amidst this strictness, the US administration has now issued an important warning regarding green card holders.

Mandatory to Carry Documents Outdoors

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has cautioned green card holders to keep proof of their immigration status with them when they leave home. Sharing the information on X (formerly Twitter), CBP said that it is mandatory for every non-citizen aged 18 years or above in the US to always keep a foreign registration certificate or green card with them. If a person does not do so and is stopped by a law enforcement agency, legal action can be taken against him and a fine can also be imposed.

Violation can be costly, card can be taken away

Although green card holders have valid permission to live and work in America, if they do not keep their identity documents with them, they may have to face serious consequences. The US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has made it clear that not following the rules can not only result in a fine, but also loss of permanent residence status or deportation from the country.

These are the legal rights of Green Card holders

Green card holders also have some legal rights. If they are taken into custody, they have the right to remain silent and ask for a lawyer. Although they are required to show their identity card, it is not mandatory to answer any questioning without a lawyer. America's Green Card allows any immigrant to live and work permanently in America, but some responsibilities are also attached to it.

This rule is not new, the law already exists

Many people may find this warning shocking, but this is not a new rule. It comes under section 264 (e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which says that all non-citizens living in the US should always keep their registration documents with them. Violation of this is considered a federal offense. Even those who have been living in the US for years and have a valid green card also come under the purview of this rule.

Green card holders need to be cautious

Amid the increasing immigration strictness in the US, green card holders need to be extra cautious. Carrying the necessary documents while leaving the house has now become an essential responsibility, so that they can avoid any legal trouble. Ignoring the rules can not only result in a fine, but the green card can also be in danger.
